Women play a central role in our lives, and for many of us, they are the essence of our beings. They wear multiple hats, and depending upon the situation, transition effortlessly from a doting mother to a strict teacher to a loyal friend. They are also the anchors whose unconditional support helps us move forward in life. They keep us grounded and give us the confidence that we can scale greater heights. But how often do we thank them for all that they do without uttering even heaving a sigh?
With this underlying thought, we asked the Doyens to acknowledge the blessings they have in the form of a female figure. We initiated the Wingman Contest to help our employees express their gratitude towards the one woman who has been a constant pillar in their lives.
The response was overwhelming, and it was heartening to see the conspicuous contributions and sacrifices women have made to help them in their achievements. While some have credited their mothers, others acknowledged their wives and sisters.
Sagayaraj revealed how his niece is the calming force that has helped him control his temper. So strong has been the transition that it has become evident to his friends and family, who have appreciated this shift in his behaviour.
“In the past, I did not come across as a warm and caring person because of my temperament. However, when she came into my life, she toned me down and taught me how to express love. Even my friends and family started noticing my transition into a gentle, loving, and caring person. She is the one who has changed my approach to life, from rough to love. Nirmala credits her mother for being a constant presence in her life. She was the one who gave Nirmala the confidence that she could juggle all the responsibilities of being a woman. Moreover, her mother has helped her discover her identity as a career-oriented woman and imparted the qualities of positivity, courage, and empathy.
“As much as she laughs with me, she laughs at me (taking sides with my friends). As much as she encourages me when I am right, she criticizes me and corrects me when I am wrong. She is super-cool, caring, and mature when I need her as my mom, fun-loving, and a fountain of youth when I need her as my friend. Above all, she is the only person with whom I can be myself. You are my hero Ma. You gave me hope that a woman can pursue her passion, hobbies, and career, along with taking care of the family without comprising on self-identity and happiness. You have led us all by example and showed us how to be humble and simple, no matter how high we may fly. Studying, working, and not giving up was possible just because of you. Biju thanks his mother for sailing his family through all the ups and downs for inspiring him to lead an independent life.

Aishwarya’s working mother never compromised her family’s needs despite the challenges of her job. She worked hard to fulfil the needs of her family while making her mark as a public servant.
“My Mother, Savithri, is a multi-talented and passionate person. She never compromised our needs even though she had a busy schedule and couldn’t give us as much time. Even during a financial crisis, she fulfilled all my needs without me asking for them. She has worked for the upliftment of society and made a place for herself as a public servant. Uday Kumar learned from his mother the importance of cherishing every moment and smiling through all his ups and downs. She motivates him to be a better person every single day.

Somu thanked his sister for being his guiding light. From being his teacher in his childhood to a trusted friend now, his sister has always been his support system.

Vijayaraghavan shared how his grandmother continues to be an inspiration for his family. Even though she is no more, she was the glue that held the family together. He fondly remembers her as a hard-working and kind-hearted soul.

My uncle has been an immense inspiration in my life. He studied in a government school and went on to complete his Ph.D. at NUS(National University of Singapore) at 45 years of age. He is a semiconductor scientist and is an A Star(A*). I learned how to be positive, committed, become an inspiration to others. He also taught me the importance of savings. Whenever I complain about my personal or professional life, he always tells me to “concentrate on your job.” This simple mantra has helped me sail through tough times.
