Since the inception of Doyensys, there have been a few clients who have supported us whole-heartedly. They have been instrumental in our journey and have anchored our growth. One such client is an India-based global leader of energy and process automation solutions.
They had a unique problem statement, where they wanted to create a DR(Disaster Recovery) setup for their EBS & ASCP instances in OCI IAAS servers. It would have directly impacted their business. Thus, they wanted testing to take minimal downtime and without disturbing the primary databases.
Project Objective
Like any other system, this customer also had business-critical applications and databases. However, they had been operating without a DR setup since their OCI migration. It posed a threat of system shutdown if anything were to happen to the primary databases.
Due to this, the customer wanted to have the DR set up at the earliest.
Broadly, the project came with three requirements:
- To setup DR in a short period.
- To test the DR set up without disturbing the primary databases or the application setup.
- Execute the project with minimal downtime for primary instances.
Project Solution
After evaluating the customer’s problem statement, the Doyensys team knew that the time-tested and failproof strategy of the DR method (failover with snapshot standby) was the perfect solution for this scenario. Since time was short, they knew it would reduce the DR testing effort with minimal downtime.
It was a challenging situation, but the team overcame it by providing the necessary SOP.
Project Solution and Impact
When the Doyensys team came into the picture, they assessed the situation and suggested more efficient solutions to this problem.
Initially, the customer had planned to use the authentic traditional process for creating the DR databases. However, Doyensys suggested using the latest and fastest Backups process in OCI, which found to be 80 times faster than the traditional process. For testing, Doyensys reviewed the entire testing process and provided an effective and efficient solution that will help in ensuring proper testing of DR without disturbing the customer production system.
As a result, Doyensys was able to reduce solution implementation efforts by 25% against the originally planned efforts.
