ASBN Creation Error for Multiple Purchase Orders Due to Transportation Arrangement Mismatch

Introduction/ Issue:

An Advanced Shipment and Billing Notice (ASBN) in Oracle E-Business Suite is a document sent by the supplier to notify the buying organization about an upcoming shipment and, optionally, the associated invoice details. ASBNs help streamline receiving by allowing organizations to prepare for inbound deliveries before the physical goods arrive.

In Oracle E-Business Suite, a single ASBN can be created for multiple Purchase Orders to support consolidated shipments. During ASBN creation, Oracle validates key shipment attributes to ensure consistency across all included Purchase Orders. One such validation checks the Transportation Arranged setup.

Why we need to do / Cause of the issue:

Oracle validates the Transportation Arranged attribute to determine responsibility for freight and logistics. This attribute can be set to either:

  • Buying Organization, or
  • Supplier

When creating an ASBN for multiple Purchase Orders, Oracle expects all shipments to have the same Transportation Arranged value. If even one Purchase Order is defined differently from the others, the system raises an error and prevents ASBN creation.

This validation is required to:

  • Ensure consistent logistics responsibility within a single shipment notice
  • Avoid ambiguity in freight ownership and receiving execution
  • Maintain data integrity during inbound logistics processing

How do we solve:

To resolve this issue, ensure that the Transportation Arranged setup is consistent across all Purchase Orders before creating the ASBN. This can be achieved by following one of these approaches:

  1. Review Purchase Order Shipment Details
  • Navigate to the Purchase Order shipment level.
  • Verify the Transportation Arranged value for each shipment.

2. Align the Transportation Arrangement

  • Update the Purchase Orders so that all shipments are set either to Buying Organization or Supplier, as per business requirements.

3.Create Separate ASBNs if Alignment Is Not Possible

  • If the Transportation Arranged responsibility must differ, create separate ASBNs for each group of Purchase Orders with the same setup. Once the Transportation Arranged attribute is consistent, Oracle allows the ASBN to be created successfully without errors.

Conclusion:

Once the Transportation Arranged attribute is consistent, Oracle allows the ASBN to be created successfully without errors.
