Our brain is capable of much more of what we can’t imagine. According to Tony Buzan, the inventor of “Mind maps”, everyone is capable of doing many things at a time and in parallel. For example, a person is capable of exhibiting many talents at a time and can be an expert in certain areas. E.g.: A person can be a singer, Multilingual, a chess player, a news reader, a cook, and can author a book. They are called as Octo- Generian. In Tamizh we call them “Ashtavadhani”. One can achieve this based on meta-cognitive thinking that is “Thinking about thinking” or Mindfulness.
He explains this technique as “Enlightenment of Brain” which gives rebirth to mind and talents.
I’m fortunate to attend one of his sessions recently about Mind Maps. He shared three things for learning anything very quickly .1. Fast reading, 2. Memory and 3. Creative thinking.
Fast reading: Tony Buzan has written many books about fast reading. His books help us with techniques on how to read fast and understand it quickly. This is the key to learning new things in a shorter time so that one can learn many things.
Memory: Imagination & association – this is a Powerful way to link and memorize. He says what we speak is not our language, it is the imagination and the association. For Example, if you have to remember something, you have to relate to something closer, relevant in pronunciation, Character or appearance etc.
Creative thinking: Generally, if I ask you to close your eyes and think of mangoes many can only think just a mango. But as per mind maps our instant thinking will be creative – like mangoes with orange color and it is the tree in a forest etc.
