TTK Healthcare is an established name in the Indian healthcare industry with a leading presence in consumer products, pharmaceuticals, bio-medical devices, foods and maps. TTK Healthcare and Doyensys share a long-standing association. The latter has been instrumental in advancing the internal technological platform to a new-age system.

However, their system was ageing, and the users faced multiple problems. The seven-year-old hardware was unable to keep up with the demands of a growing organisation.

Structurally, TTK Healthcare consists of multiple entities. All their divisions except TTK Protective Devices Division were on a common TTK Healthcare ERP application running on Oracle EBS. The Devices Division was on the SAP system, which led to an additional cost for SAP license renewal. Moreover, it required a separate on-premise infrastructure for the SAP system. The company had to spend more on its maintenance.

Problem Statement

When TTK Healthcare approached Doyensys for a solution, there were two areas that we needed to target – renew the old hardware and move the devices division to Oracle EBS. In this process, the team identified further areas of improvement.

  • Automating manual disaster recovery.
  • Compromisable network security.
  • Seamless transition from the SAP to Oracle EBS ERP.
  • Leveraging the features of Oracle EBS to enhance process efficiency.
  • Automating end-to-end processes in a few business areas.
  • Optimising the ROI by eliminating the additional licensing cost incurred for SAP.

Challenges

Since the application was already in use by the employees, the project came with its own set of challenges. Firstly, TTK Healthcare wanted to configure & test in 5 months and wanted to go-live by FY Apr ’19.

The other set of challenges included the following.

  • Integration of custom Bolt-on Applications with the Oracle Process Manufacturing Module (OPM).
  • Product gaps related to the Quality Management Module.

Solutions

The team of Doyens proposed and implemented the following set of solutions.

  • Since the company was using the application for a long time, the database was huge. Export and import of data in the existing system would lead to an inefficient and lengthy process. The Doyensys team resolved this situation by applying patches and tuned a few database parameters for the desired result.
  • Cutover is the time during the transition in which both the old and the new systems should work concurrently. The Doyensys team created an OCI resource in advance to manage the migration and reduce the cutover. The team of Doyens also performed cutover activity in parallel wherever applicable.
  • The team worked to increase the upload speed bandwidth, and also transferred dump files from various locations.
  • The team automated the backups using a command-line interface using shell scripting.
  • The Doyensys team enabled LPD service in Windows and configured on-premise printer using CUPS.
  • Mapping of the SAP processes with Oracle EBS ERP to identify the process fitment & gaps.
  • Custom solutions for the identified gaps.
  • Separate Bolt-on application to cater to the custom manufacturing process
  • Automation solution for end-to-end process covering the inventory transfer between divisions.

Results

The solution offered by Doyensys surpassed the expectations of TTK Healthcare. The revamped internal IT application delivered a positive impact in the following areas.

  • Increased availability of the application compared to the earlier on-premise system.
  • Ability to scale up, as needed, for non-production instances during the project cycle. Moreover, Doyensys also provided for flexibility of the storage needs.
  • Ease of maintenance with reduced time to provision new instances. Additionally, the team also allowed for a reduction in backup time and improved performance of concurrent requests up to 15 times.
  • Reliable DR plans
  • Reduced license renewal cost that would otherwise be incurred for SAP.
  • Reduced Infrastructure cost due to the migration from the on-premise SAP system to an existing Cloud-based Oracle EBS solution.

Conclusion

With the technical expertise that Doyensys possesses, TTK Healthcare received appropriate solutions for their problems. Today, the association has become a long-standing one after having completed seven successful years together.
