From a Fresher to Project Manager: My 12-Year Journey at Doyensys

From Fresher to Project Manager

“Do your work and the rest will follow.”– These simple words reflect the career journey of Akhash Ramnath—a story of steady growth, personal realizations, and the value of the right learning environment.

On June 11, 2011, Akhash began his humble start at Doyensys. As a fresher, he chose Doyensys because of two reasons:

  1. His close friend Aravindan was joining too
  2. He liked the Doyensys office which was at Temple Towers at that time 😊

With an educational background in Electronics and Communication Engineering, and a short stint with another mid-size firm, Akhash joined Doyensys as a fresher. Soon he started working on projects like Xoma Pharma, PASA, HONDA and Maverick, gradually building his technical skills. Under the mentorship of Narasimha Rao, Sundar and alongside experts like Iqbal, he started finding his strength in database technologies.

In 2018, Akhash resigned for personal reasons. Though his next role offered a higher compensation, the lack of work-life balance became a growing concern.

The emotional toll of this imbalance made Akhash appreciate what he had valued at Doyensys: a supportive environment, recognition, and harmony between work and personal life. In 2019, he gladly returned to the company, where he was warmly welcomed. His comeback project with Forbes Marshall was challenging, but Sundaravel’s unwavering support reaffirmed his decision.

The defining chapter of Akhash’s journey came with the Syntax project. While typical EBS/DB migrations or upgrades require three to four months, Akhash’s team not only committed to an unprecedented one-month timeline—they executed flawlessly and delivered on their bold promise.

Over two years in Syntax, he completed 48 migrations/upgrades, gaining deep expertise in complex tasks like Exadata migrations and parallel project handling. This experience didn’t just shape his skills—it elevated his reputation.

He is also proud to be one of the first set of people who started the IRM project, which is the largest project for Doyensys today.

Beyond projects, Akhash contributed to the Doyensys Technical Forum, presenting papers and sharing his expertise regularly. His technical insights and willingness to document and present complex ideas in a simple way have helped many in the company.

Throughout his journey, Akhash’s personal and professional lives have influenced each other. And every recognition—from small kudos to a major appreciation from Forbes Marshall—brought pride not just to him but to his family as well.

When he and his wife worked in the same company, managing life was easier. He still smiles when he recalls how his reputation at Doyensys had reached his father-in-law even before their marriage as a prospective groom. “That made me proud,” he says.

Now, Akhash doesn’t just lead—he mentors. He had trained many juniors like Kishore, Gopinathan Jothi, Venky, Abishek, Sakthi, Vijay, and Balaji. He prepares runbooks—easy guides for freshers for routine activities—and conducts sessions with freshers to understand their challenges.

“Work hard and trust the process. Even if fate says no, your efforts will speak. Like Thiruvalluvar said:”

‘தெய்வத்தான் ஆகா தெனினும் முயற்சிதன்
மெய்வருத்தக் கூலி தரும்.’

Keep improving. Be proud of what you do.”

Akhash’s story proves that you don’t need dramatic beginnings to achieve great things. With the right environment, mentors, and commitment, even a quiet start can lead to an inspiring rise—from Fresher to Project Manager at Doyensys.
