Oracle Application Express (APEX) provides developers with the tools they need to swiftly create engaging apps with the best possible functionality, performance, and user interface. Oracle APEX eliminates several enterprise application developments and deployment challenges to do.
APEX offers creators to instantly build & allocate advanced applications that work with real-time issues & provide solutions instantly. For complex solutions to be delivered, you don’t need to be an expert in a wide range of technologies.
What’s better is that Oracle has just updated apex.oracle.com, a free APEX assessment site, to a pre-production version of Oracle APEX 22.2! So, what’s new in APEX 22.2? Before we move on, let us know more about Oracle APEX!
Oracle APEX – Why do businesses choose it?
Oracle APEX was created from the ground up to help developers in building seamless, cutting-edge & responsive applications without requiring any subject-matter experts. Oracle APEX’s goal is to create developers to produce innovative apps with advanced performance, updated functions & enhanced user experience.
Oracle APEX plans to eliminate the regular complexity of building and launching corporate applications to meet this demand. Here are a few reasons why businesses choose Oracle APEX Cloud Services for their development initiatives.
1. Eliminates Complexity
Oracle APEX cuts all superfluous layers of complexity from the development and deployment of applications. It produces a low-code platform that is more straightforward, quick, light, and affordable than its competitors.
With low-code application development, complexity gets eliminated across all layers & less code is needed to build apps.
Oracle APEX removes:
- The relational and application object mapping
- The intricacy of remote procedure calls
- An increasing number of database connections
- Logic in middle-tier applications
- Complexity in High availability and disaster recovery
2. Simplifies Development
Oracle APEX is simple to use and learn. Oracle Application Builder is a feature-rich, browser-based, user-friendly interface that helps you create applications. Oracle APEX enables you to enhance your apps’ capabilities while requiring little to no coding.
The development process starts with a spreadsheet or data model because it is data-driven. In a low-code, web-based environment – almost 98% of the coding is eliminated, and you can design applications. To control data flow between applications and databases, middle-tier apps typically design application data structures. These complications are removed with Oracle APEX cloud services. In the majority of use cases, it also eliminates remote APIs.
3. Powerful and Proven
From the simple app that makes a spreadsheet web-friendly to mission-critical apps used frequently by your end customers, Oracle APEX cloud services may be used to construct various apps for any business. Many applications worldwide can be powered by Oracle APEX’s attractive architecture.
4. Improves Security
Oracle APEX has made the developers create web apps that are very secure right out of the box. The emphasis on security ensures that your apps remain safe and cutting-edge in a world of constantly changing web standards, evolving security requirements, and crafty hackers.
Focusing on security guarantees that your applications and data remain secure and up-to-date because web and security standards are improving & there is an increased threat from hackers.
5. Can be Deployed Anywhere
In comparison to middle-tier applications, Oracle APEX cloud services make it far easier to deploy both the application and the database’s data. It can be used anywhere there is an Oracle Database, including on-premises, on the cloud, and elsewhere. Easy deployment of Oracle APEX apps in on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments.
6. Reduces Costs
Although running an application in a database may appear expensive and complicated, it is simple and reduces costs. Applications running on Oracle APEX use low functions than mid-tier apps.
Because it is free of local servers, connections across users can be reused because the runtime app history is saved in tables. There are significantly fewer connections & each link is thin. In addition, Autoscale on Autonomous Database eliminates the requirement for middle-tier scaling.
As a result, compared to middle-tier apps, Oracle APEX applications utilize 100 times fewer mid-tier hardware resources & fewer database resources.
What’s new with APEX 22.2?
Now that we know why Oracle APEX is preferred, let’s look at how Oracle has updated the new version.
Some of the most interesting and potent additions that APEX 22.2 introduces are Progressive Web Apps (PWA) changes to deliver a nearly native mobile user experience, updated approvals component to include capabilities such as defining due dates, expiration policies, action logging & more.
New page-level process types enable the execution of procedures and functions declaratively such as declarative application search functionality, a redesigned autocomplete item, a new date picker web component, a new dynamic content region, expanded support for template directives & much more.
But wait! There’s more!
1. Application Search
Rich search capabilities are simple to add to your APEX applications thanks to the brand-new search region and search configurations with shared systems. You can instantly offer your users a robust search-engine-style model that searches numerous data sources for matches and presents pertinent in a single, consolidated search results zone.
2. Invoke API Processes
Without writing any PL/SQL code, this new page-level process type enables the declarative execution of procedures and functions. When an Interactive Grid column is available, Page Designer will automatically set up parameters and map them to matching page items. Supports sophisticated data types like PL/SQL Records and is fully PL/SQL data type aware. Page Items can record the results of parameters or functions.
3. Approvals Component
Additional features have been added to the Approvals component. Some of these are set-up activity logging, due dates, and expiration policies, among other things.
4. New Date Picker
The new Date Picker offers a streamlined user experience that is quicker, more accessible, and lighter weight because it has been created from the bottom up for APEX.
5. Dynamic Content Region
The new dynamic content region has PL/SQL Dynamic Content region type denoted as a heritage component. With a few significant exceptions, this latest region type is quite identical.
6. Landmark Support for Regions
Landmarks are essential for helping screen reader users browse across web pages quickly and comprehend their structure. Developers now have more control and flexibility over how the page structure is communicated to screen readers thanks to Oracle APEX 22.2’s ability to redefine Landmarks for any specific region.
Other notable enhancements include Universal Theme updates, CLOB Support, and renowned PWA and mobile updates like feature detection, app screenshots & shortcuts, device geolocation & more. Two new region templates, enhanced support for Items in Region locations, improved page rendering performance, and other changes have been made to the Universal Theme.
Also, page items and Interactive Grid columns can store values longer than 32K characters. Additionally, Oracle is holding a 4-part exclusive series of Oracle APEX office hours that will solely cover the new features in APEX 22.2.
