If you are confused with SSL and TLS, this blog will help you to understand at higher level.
Before knowing about SSL, lets know about what is SSL?
Secure Socket Layer is shortly called as SSL created by Netscape focused on creating secure computer communications network. The initial version (SSL 1.0) was never released to public as because of serious security flaws in the protocol.
Later SSL 2.0 publised in 1995 and deprecated in 2011 and SSL 3.0 published in 1996 and deprecated in 2015.
Transport Layer Security (TLS) is an upgraded version of SSL 3.0. TLS was firstly developed in 1999 by Internet Engineering Task Force. , an international standards organization.
TLS 1.0 planned to deprecate in 2020. Latest version of TLS is TLS 1.3.
Any website that uses HTTPS is therefore has TLS encryption.
